The Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum is honored to invite Dr. Duan Zhiqiang, Associate Researcher at the Institute of Humanities and History, Fudan University, to deliver a lecture on "Mutual Aid Organizations in Ancient Society – Starting from a Dunhuang Document." Using a document on the "Women's Society" from the Dunhuang manuscripts, the lecture will uncover the rich ecosystem of grassroots mutual aid organizations in ancient northwest society and explore the continuation and evolution of this tradition in Chinese society.

The "Women's Society" document reveals a daily cooperative system overlooked by mainstream historical narratives. By examining the development of ancient mutual aid organizations, we may gain a new understanding of the less conspicuous aspects of Chinese civilization.

A Global History from a Chinese Perspective

This book, adapted from the highly-rated program on "Ideal Vision," is meticulously crafted by editor-in-chief Professor Ge Zhaoguang and multiple authors, including Dr. Duan Zhiqiang.

Presenting a decentralized global historical perspective with an international vision and cutting-edge theories, the book offers a narrative of global history from the perspective of Chinese scholars. As a rare work of global history led by Chinese scholars and rooted in a Chinese perspective, it fills a gap in the field and reflects China's academic ambition and theoretical sophistication in global history research. The book also highlights Dunhuang's crucial role as a Silk Road hub in trade, religious dissemination, and cultural exchange.
